Is it steep in the requirements? I.e., is it a "Can you run Crysis?" kind of game?

It's a typical Matrix Excel with Guns game

I know they're a small niche developer, but charging $80-$100 for bug-ridden trash is frankly unacceptable. Burned one too many times over a decade ago.

As I said before, Matrix is NOT developer company. It's just publisher. They do publish and sell games of many developers. They do not develop games themselves.

I have never bought a game from them that I was not satisfied with, mainly because I check their forums first, to see what people think about that game. E.g., Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich was on sale recently and I was thinking of buying it. But when I checked the Matrix forum for the game, I found out that Gary G. and rest of the 2by3 had basically left it unsupported now. So, no-go.

BTW, they just lowered prices of some older games considerably, might be worth checking.

If you want to see what sort of stuff is in game, there is database viewer available:

http://wiki.baloogan...x.php/Main_Page

It's under construction, so lot of stuff in game not yet on the pages.

Spent something like 8 hrs editing existing scenario Operation Sling of David (fictional Israeli air attack on Iran).

I wanted to give some modified load-outs and ECM/sensor gear to my IDF/AF planes and drones...and currently it is quite PITA to do it for parked planes. :D And some stuff just cannot be done(that is outside defined load-outs of plane). I spent an hours changing stuff like adding Skyshield DECM jammers, dual-spectrum flares..you name it. Made kick-ass Eitan UAV deep-penetration recon/Electronic Warfare load-out (FLIR/laser designator/DECM/OECM/chaff & flare dispensers/towed decoys). Editing scenario is even more fun than playing it. :D

And to figure out if going out against reactor complex with 2x SPICE 2000 (Mk 84)GPS/EO/INS load-out per F-16I Sufa or 6x Mk 82 LDGB (laser designator guided bombs) or Griffins..or JDAMs... :D And deciding load-outs vs. need for aerial refueling vs. survivability...etc.

E.g. I can attack reactor complex with 6x Mk 82 LDGB per plane (all weather), but I have to come within 1 nautical mile. 2-4x Griffin Mk 82s, 4 nm (but those are clear weather only), 2-4x Opher Mk 82, 2nm (all weather) or safest SPICE 2000 Mk 84, 35 nm (all weather). And then it is hit probability/number of targets/number of ordnance vs. predicted defences.... And this is in scenario editor (you can play scenario in both simulation and editor mode), latter gives you tools to edit something you want to change during play too. When playing in simulation mode, you'll actually have to wait for your planes to change load-out... like 6 hrs to change from Mk 82 LDGB to others etc. :D And you'd want your planes arrive to Iran at night and not in the morning... :D

Playing with editor (that does not support what I am doing normally) :D But with work-arounds, it does what I want.

If you wan to see how this game plays, there are loads of Youtube videos on Baloogan channel.  He also hosts multiplayer sessions every saturday.

Well worth checking!!

One interesting right here, Soviet task force with Kiev aviation cruiser trying to get back home after spending all anti-ship/anti-surface missiles against Iceland.

For masochists, 1:15 hr video about playing Operation Firestorm (Vietnam War). And it's not THAT complicated, Baloogan is using LOT of manual targeting for max. micromanagement :D

Edit: I personally dislike those stylished icons, they are not in game as standard, but extra mod-pack.

http://www.matrixgam...Command.Updated

Praised by both hobbyists and defense specialists, Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations has swept the wargaming awards since its release last September, including the Usenet’s Wargame of The Year 2013 and the gold medal for the Grogheads Game of the Year 2013 readers’ award.  However, the developers from Warfare Sims are still polishing this diamond.

Today is the culmination of nearly three months of constant refinements. The v1.03 update brings massive speed and stability improvements to an already rock-solid game and provides loads of new content in direct response to player feedback and requests. Brand new features enhance the level of realism of this advanced simulation and plenty of new weapons and platforms have been added to the giant database of the game.

Here’s a selection of the major improvements:

·         Soaring game speed with the new no-pulse (aka "Turbo mode") map option.

·         Ironclad stability with hundreds of crash/bug/logic-flaw fixes.

·         Further realism features like realistic loadout drag & weight effect on fuel consumption ("Christmas tree" loadouts now have a price), enhanced weather effects and refined air-ops AI options.

·         Countless database & installation additions -  from WW2-era IJN aircraft and hypothetical Cold War units & weapons like the Yak-141, Ulyanovsk CVN, F-23 ATF, A-12 Avenger II, Super Tomcat 21 and "son of Phoenix" AIM-152 AAAM all the way to ultra-modern hardware like the MOP super bunker-buster, Club-K container-launched cruise missile, the UK's Type-26 frigate, Russian Vityaz and Morfey SAMs and Chinese burgeoning air and naval forces.

·         Dozens of new community scenarios enhanced by the new features

Well, we'll see, but I think that's very optimistic based on the constant stream of crashes this thing has been generating for me. Up to this point I've been getting several a night with big scenarios, and I don't think they've made a lot of changes from B501 to the 1.03 release.

Yes, that sort of thing can happen now and then. usually it's related to some certain weapon or plane or scenario etc. I'd not say "ironclad stability" either, but I.03 has not crashed on me yet and also previously I was 95% sure to be able to continue from autosave.

They are already making Build 505... :D

And BTW, Build 507 is out, first one after Patch 1.03 (Build 504). They are tweaking game and squashing bugs with phenomenal rate.
