It doesn't say anything about barrel lengths, though.

Soviet 1941 experimental 5.6mm high-performance cartridge. 5.6x60R case, 5g bullet, 1200m/s... Modified Tokarev carbine receiver was bending under the stress of the firing.

Vietnam 1968 - This big-bore weapon was captured by 3rd Division Marines during an engagement with the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) near Dong Ha. The “big gun” has been fashioned from a M-79 grenade launcher and is equipped with a fast-draw spring holster made from a cut-down U. S. pistol holster.

More probably for early experiments with 5.56mm, since it is in PPU depot*. 1:12 twist rate as original M16...
*Depot has quite a collection including 7.9x57mm version of BM59, 7.62x39mm AR-10 (same as on Finnish trials, but with brown plastic furniture), 7.62x39mm 18" barrel AR-18, FN-CAL and many, many more exotics. But they refuse to allow taking photos of most of those...

Yes, rework of M1 for 7.9x57, 20 rounds mag (from ZB-26/30) and shortened barrel. It went nowhere when we got whole SKS production line for free. Now, timing of development of both is simultaneous, and it is quite possible that at least some work was done with Italians.
Unfortunately we might never know for sure, cause Italians supposedly destroyed all BM59 documentation and most of our is lost...
