You do know that Zastava also built the Yugo.

 

Formally same, practically quite different company.

Joke in the weapons factory was "if you fail a school and can not get a job here, you can always assemble cars". Weapons factory offered higher wages, took best and brightest from the local machinery college and car factory had to do with leftovers.

Rubbish. Japan cannot export weapons but can export components. Most of the USian higher end glass is Japanese. Anyway, airsofto parts are not weapons.

The postwar precision glass industry is a Japanese success story, and was a pathway for other industries to move up from the low end they were manufacturing in.

 

Component exports are/would be a good start in this sector.
