I take it that the AW159 Wildcat was seen as the likely choice?

The Wildcat would have had the advantage of fitting the smaller vessels's hangars that the MH-90 is not going to fit into for example on the F123 class Frigates. The F124 need bigger hangar doors. I guess they are going to limp on with the remaining Sea Lynxes and cannibalising for spares to keep the F123 equipped with a helicoter for the short time those are staying in service.

 

OTOH a pure fleet MH-90 makes things easier in the MFG 5 as the MH-90 also replaces the Sea King already. There is also a requirement for a MH-SOF, half a dozen helicopters for the navy special squirrels swordfishes. I bet this is going to be some NH-90 variant as well.
