Geoff gave me a Red Ensign a few years ago and when King came to visit me
for those few days, I gave it to him when I learned he didn't have one. He really
especially enjoyed that one of the little this-n-that's I gave him to take home
with him. He was pleased knowing it also had originally come from Geoff. I can easily
lay my hands on another. I had that one to be included in my Uncle Ed's little archive
of his service years so will replace it one day soon. It was a reproduction of course.
Geoff sold them for very little via his website. Many Veterans bought them, I think many did to use at their funerals ... hoping to have it draped over their caskets? I imagine there will be a Red Ensign present for Geoff for his services??? Geoff touched so many Veterans and went all out to help so many of them, or their relatives. Very personally involved with the Kangaroos Veterans and he was force behind the annual Kangaroo gatherings. He loved them all.

The reason I asked, I was thinking about doing a tribute page on my web site like I have done for volunteers that have died, such as here, http://armorfortheag...offmannPage.htm since Geoff was the host of my web site. But maybe instead it would be beter to do it on TN, along with one for King, as permanent fixtures, so that new members have a reference for the most revered ones who have gone.

Gary, Staff have been talking about setting that up. Mike Steele has volunteered to help set it up. I will collect as much info as I can at the Service Tomorow. I ma leaving now to avoid the snow storm that is coming. I will be there tomorrow and I will pass on the best wishes from Geoffs extended internet Family

Cheers

Andrew

I was truly sad to hear of Geoff's passing when T19 informed me earlier this week.

I haven't been here in a long time but I remember Geoff's good natured ribbing and his no nonsense approach to managing this grate singt. He complained loudly and often of being born a decade or two too late but I prefer to think that he (and his ilk ;) ) were born at exactly the right time to influence those born 3or 4 decades too late.

RIP Geoff...

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers' Green.

As I mentioned before I didn't even know he was ill. At the risk of prying how long was his illness and what did he have?

There were a few "Friends of TN" Like Jacques Littlefield and some others like that but AFAIK only King and Geoff that were Members per se. I will be solicting photos and the like from everybody when we get closer to the final product (what ever that may be)

Add Dave Decker to the list. His article the Grim Reaper was in Armor mag in 1998.

He posted until he died of Agent Orange cancer , he and Goeff were friends.

Well I have just returned form Geoff's Service... well attended... damn this internet... could have been a room of friends, but I only know their loggon names.

So, I spoke to Shawn regarding our Hall of Remembrance, and he will send us the bio matter to help remember his father. His family are holding up well, and were very happy to have his Internet family there. They have been reading the posts here and have been comforted by our wishes of condolences

IIRC there was also Robert Dick, a WWII Sherman tanker who fought on Iwo Jima who was a participant in the early days (possibly only on the Brunk Site?).
