Dcs F/a18C Hornet

Man, I'd really love to get back into DCS at some point, but it just seems so incompatible with a normal working life.
A few years ago, I played around with DCS A-10C for a few weeks, but it was just too much.

Yeah, the A10 is REALLY complicated in the C model. The Harrier is actually pretty simple, though its slowly getting harder as they keep updating it.
If you want quick access, the Flaming Cliff's 3 addon is the way to go. Not only that but if you have a VR Helmet, the SU27 and the Mig29 both feature helmet sights, which are a hell of a lot of fun in dogfighting.
I know, I need to get out more......

Yeah I had already preordered it, but ive yet to download it. I can speak for what weapons they have for it, but they have just brought out the AGM65E for the Harrier, which has been a hell of a lot of fun to play with. There has also been speculation about the Mk77 Fire bomb, which presumably would have application for the Harrier and the F18.
They also brought out the Persian Gulf addon (which I also preordered) and whilst they need to add in further areas like Kerman, its really very good indeed.

Ok, so just tried it today and this module is clear awesome. Its got a near complete cold and dark startup, and dogfighting in it is absolutely hilarious. The only bad thing about it, the time im spending flying it, Im not flying the Harrier.
Anyway, if you like flight sims, just get it. Go without beer for a month if you have to.

Like all ED/DCS modules it will be completed by the time your grandchildren have grandchildren.

It depends what ones. The Mig21 and the Hawk seem to be taking forever. But the Harrier other than the INS now seems to be largely implimented. So is the Huey. I think the worst one can say about it is 'Patchy'.

Yeah, when I land I do significantly less than 140 knots, otherwise the angle of attack is wrong. But interesting anyway, supposedly this is a profile used in real life when they want to get the aircraft on the deck as soon as possible.

I'm tempted but the F/A-18C isn't all that interesting to me. I wonder why they didn't do the F/A-18E instead?

I think it was difficulty in getting some of the information on various systems. The C model has pretty much been declassified by now.
Besides, as far as the cockpit, there isnt THAT much to choose between them. I gather the E model kept much of the functionality of the avionics, just to keep retraining between the C and E models at a minimum.
Its a nice aircraft, but for my money, I think the Harrier is more interesting. That and landing it is absolutely hilarious, particularly on a ship.

Yes, it looks pretty grand doesnt it? They have actually gone so far as to track down all the documents they can find on the Aim-54 and replicated the flight profile as close as they can, and are got former F-14 aviators to practice deck landings to make sure they got it right. Which it certainly looks like they did. In the A Model, you can even get Maverick style compressor stalls, making you go into a flat spin. About the only way out of it was to change the geometry of the wing to all the way back to change the centre of gravity of the aircraft, which sometimes works, sometimes doesnt. If it doesn't you have to punch out and spend a month grieving over your WSO.
One of the nice features is they are were going to fit a small Sony walkman in the cockpit (they did something similar with the Saab Viggen they made) and release its own dedicated soundtrack by a a guy who makes retro 1980's music for a living. Perfect for ones well oiled simulated gay volleyball needs, inverted or otherwise.
