On June 10th, a 6 ship group centered around the Liaoning carrier was observed heading south, passing through the waters between the islands of Okinawa and Miyako (Miyako Strait) and into the Pacific Ocean was observed by the JMSDF. The whole group consisted of Liaoning, one Type 901 AOE, one Type 52D destroyer, one Type 51C destroyer, and two Type 54A frigates.

First the Type 901 and Type 51C were observed at 7AM 270km north west of Kume island (little island next to Okinawa island). Then at 9PM the other four ships were observed about 350km north west from Kume island. Afterwards all 6 headed south through the Miyako Strait.

While it was the third time for Liaoning to venture into the Pacific, it is the first time for a Type 901 AOE (45,000 ton class) to be observed by the JMSDF.
