Ekaterina Velikaya did after all intend for Russia to reestablish Constantinople.

In Ekaterina Velikaya time Russia was clearly unable to do it – as only in this time what is now South Ukraine was cleared from constant Crimea Tatars threat, Crimea taken and slave markets finally closed.

S-500 has completed trials and entered production in new factories with IOC scheduled for 2020.  This article,

https://sputniknews....siles-features/

Contains an interesting tidbit,

Its one-of-a-kind self-homing warheads search for their targets and, finding them, switch to an automatic-homing mode.

Similar in concept to what we’ve been discussing elsewhere on how to shoot down stealth aircraft – use the LF radars to define the search area and send the missiles in to hunt for the target in it.

i wonder if it would be possible to use ARMs to shoot down a SAM using that kind of search tactic.

They were talking some years ago about an Air to Air ARM that could home on aircraft radars. It never entered testing though AFAIK.

The F35 actually has provision for a mounting a solid state laser. There was some speculation that it might be possible to one day to use it on homing missiles.

In form of DLIRCM or hard-kill APS?

The speed cited for the new S-500 missile is Mach 9, so I doubt any air to air missile is shooting it down.   Not clear if it is compatible with earlier systems such as SA-5 or S-300, but if it is, this would represent a big upgrade in capability.

S-500s main point is ABM capabilities increase. In terms of AA work it mostly identical to S-400 and uses same 40N6 missile.
UPD: article in whole is very dope(40N6 is not 250km, but 400km ranged(probably confused it with 48N6), somehow ground based radars are useless in space, it will not be first system to engage hypersonic targets, at the very lasts there is Buk-M3, very strange description of commom ARH missile work...). It whole I recommend to not make any conclusions about system based on this article.
