I've seen it in summer and it is a moving monument. However, the starkness of the figures frozen in the snow evokes such a feeling of sacrifice and isolation as to almost be overwhelming.

Are you mocking it? There is absolutely no reason for that. My grandfather was a Korean War Vet and it lived with him till his dying day. If I am misreading your post then I apologize.

I don't think he's mocking it at all. He's sympathizing with it.

When I went and saw it, it was the first week of May, on a typical rainy, gloomy DC day. The evocation of the uphill-in-the-rain nature of infantry combat in any 20th Century war was what struck me.

Agree with Yama and Tony.  In any weather, it gives a sense of the pure misery that is a part of war.  The image here made me immediately think of the Frozen Chosin

I felt cold also when I saw the pic. ISTR there was some criticism against the monument, that it was ugly and such...? Anyhow, I always liked it, and this pic just shows how much of a memorial it is.

One of the Atlanta ferret owners was a Marine at Chosin Reservoir. Reading and talking about that battle.....
