Clips from the movie "Winter War". These may not stay there for long, but enjoy while possible.

That's pretty cool. I love the strafing I-16s. The tanks look pretty good, too.

Why doesn't the Russian infantry have bayonets?

I thought that as well. I was under the impression that Russian infantry had them glued to the end of the rifle as you never see them without them.

It took me some time to realise that it was Finland and not the Germans, as I could not quite understand why the rifles were wrong and the lack of MGs.

Is the film due out or is it only on limited release?

It has been out for years. About those bayonets, i think they could not get enough of them and making of them would be too expensive to Finnish movie industry. Also, there is mater of safety if people are running around with bayonetted rifles.

Edit: Film came out -89! Director Pekka Parikka, based on book by Antti Tuuri.
Acording Wikipedia, film released in US is only 125 minutes, and original movie lasts 195 minutes.

You know, I saw this years ago, and wondered then--where are the LMGs? I see rifles, I see SMGs, but Finnish machine guns are noticeably lacking...

IIRC Fins were short on MGs, specificly LMGs having (in ideal case) just one per plt. Only after captures of DPs did they manage to push them to a squad level.

Hey, if I was there I'd pay to go see him with you.

On a different musical note, here's Stevie Wonder doing an absolutely smokin' live version of "Superstition" on, believe it or not, Sesame Street!
"Stevie melts the pavement on Sesame Street with a scorching version of "Superstition". School is in session, kids."

I don't think you'd see anything remotely like this on Sesame Street now. As one comment states, "There was better music on f'n SESAME STREET in the 70's than there is on MTV today."
Gotta love the little kid in orange on the balcony! :D
