Not quite sure how available this is yet, but its clearly one to try if you have a VR headset.

I thought this was going to be about experiencing the receiving end ...

Going to recommend it to my brothers #4 and #7 who have the equipment.

There is quite a nice mod for the original IL2 where you can fly for the German nightfighter force, complete with ground control and your own radarman giving vectors. Really gave a nice appreciation of how difficult it was to get into position and formate to use Schrage Musik. Too bad it wont work in VR.

You play a lot of Kerbal space simulator dont you? There is what looks to be quite a nice spacewalk experience about the International Space station, also free.

No problem. Ill post if anything new pops up.

Was just thinking, imagine if they redid Memphis Belle (the Wyler version) in a similar fashion with VR?

As an aside, you can also download it on the Oculus Rift webpage.

They actually give a nice link to the BBC website on it, which covers Thomas's original report, and some of the background information.

Just shown it to my mother. She was completely blown away by it, as was I.

My mother had to watch it twice. :D

I love the bit at the end where everyone is nudging the Flight Engineer to sing a song, and he is shaking his head in refusal. The attention to detail is fantastic. You can even see the sound engineer cutting the recording on his disc.

Going to recommend it to my brothers #4 and #7 who have the equipment.

Brother #4 commented that it was a, quote, "bloody good show". He wants a co-op game version though where players can man the various stations.

I always wanted a Bomber Command simulator, with a playable Nightfighter component, which would seem to have been in part what the cancelled 'Target For Tonight' was going to offer. Still on the positive side, at least the Lancaster model went to a rather nice FSX dlc. Yes, the morality of a game that features area bombing is going to be a hard sell. But perhaps the best way of understanding why these things were done is to actually do it.

Maybe around 2045 or so.....

Glad he enjoyed it. There is a few demo's on the Oculus Rift website, one of which gives you a flypast of vintage aircraft. After the Wright Flyer you then get a Bleriot, which is then dispatched by a Fokker Eindecker, which then has a go at you in a strafing run. :)  The educational possibilities of theses things are endless. Imagine using these in a classroom.

That's very impressive Stuart.

Speaking of a Bomber Command simulator would a tabletop version be of any interest?

Thats very interesting, but I dont really have anyone to play with sadly. I DO have Bombing the Reich, which is good. I do think that including Southern Europe and Italy, whilst logical, makes it all a bit large and unwieldy. Interesting though. I like playing as the luftwaffe and desperately trying to lick the production into shape, which usually means maxing out Fw190D9's and He162's.
