Interior footage likes that really makes it obvious even to someone like me who has never been inside an armoured vehicle just how little room for error there is around the breech and how easy accidents can/could happen during firing/loading/recoil. How any of the turret crew have any hearing left at all after a few rounds also completely baffles me!
How many ready rounds are there available for the loader in the 2S1 in those clips on the turret walls? According to most sites I've read, 40 rounds are typically the most which are carried internally. Are all of those within easy reach of the loader?
Yes, 40 shells, of which 16 can be considered ready round IIRC. I was told the rate of fire is slower when onboard ammunition supply is used.
