No Doubt--it was 6pm & 8pm PST, so you were probably, in fact still asleep.

Though isn't it a 'big deal' that YT came down all over the world?

It's a big deal for Youtube revenue. It's not a big deal for consumers, find something else to do. It'll be up. As an IT guy I'm mildly curious what caused the issue. Can't have been a physical layer issue based on their diverse data center locations. So I'm guessing someone made a bad code or VERY bad configuration change on the back end that was not easily discovered.

The Internet Archive has been providing a Youtube-like service since years before Youtube existed.

Just saying.

or go read a book. wlak the dog. Will there be a spike in births in nine months? ^_^

But it cast a spotlight on the issue of centralised infrastructure and how much stuff is nowadays found on this one single platform. As in the twitter thread is mentioned, police put up videos of suspects and crimes there for example. Instead putting it on their own sites.

'These girls are fools' is lurid fun too. :D

Archive.org is awesome. They have tons of old books and movies on there. Search 'Der Adler' and you find a large trove of WW2 Luftwaffe magazines.
