It looks quite rough. On landing the nosewheel is seen to touch the deck quite a bit later than the mainwheels of the landing gear, which resulted in the nose of the aircraft getting smacked down hard when the arrestor wire was pulled taut. Just prior to the touchdown the pilot seems to suddenly pull up a tad to correct his approach (sink rate too high), leading to the situation as described.

Given that the LEVCON control surfaces move around quite radically just prior to the touchdown, the Indian pilot is not flying on speed AOA using his throttle, but bringing the nose up by pulling on the stick resulting in too much AOA, as you judged correctly.
Compare with this French navy pilot janking the throttle back- and forwards (and using trim) to control pitch and his stick to control the roll rate. Look at the AOA indexer left of the HUD.
