Did the vehicle have zimmereit on it? Just wondering if it was a factory assembly mark.

This is from summer of 1942, too early for zimmereit.

Now guys are preparing to drag out StuG hull (or what is left of it), with M3Stuart and two tractors to follow....

I was figuring that if it was under Zimmereit, it might be a factory mark thats been protected for 70 years.

Might be a unit symbol then, but its not one ive seen before.

From what little I remember from my modelmaking days, most of the Divisional symbols for German vehicles were either Runic (particularly SS) or a symbol, like a wolfs head or a flower.  I cant remember any off the top off my head that used letters other than perhaps Grossdeutchland.

Dont suppose this could have been a captured vehicle the Red Army put their own markings on?

I dont claim to know cyrillic, other than once attempting unsuccessfully to learn it.  :D  But there is something strange about the h, with a curve at the top. Thats not really usual for a lower case h which is the only reason why it occurs to me it wasn't painted by Germans.

Found this earlier if its any help.

Thank you, intersting somebody  back in  2001 was asking about  unit's performance & losses in September, 1942 at  Uriv since Uriv (Урыв-Покровка) is the place where this part was recovered from.

Makes you wonder if it was a legacy of serving alongside the Hungarians.

P.S. The same "Ch" in the same style on "turret" right side.

Is it possible to add more then one attachment here?

I think it depends on photo size, you sometimes have to downsize your gallery before it will allow you to post more. Alternative do what I did, setup a photobucket gallery and then you have near unlimited scope to reference photos.

Ive just mentioned this to my friend whom is also an avid modeller and seemed to know Stugs (he built a 1.16 scale one). He cant say he has heard of this marking before either.
