Never let an opportunity to push your agenda go to waste, no matter how poor in taste. Nothing better to mobilize people than to wave a blood-stained shirt.

Really funny that one considering that SUV are as large and heavy as a type 7 BMW or a Mercedes S class.

In related news highlighting the professionalism of politicians:

Well, expecting professionalism at the "village spokesperson" level (not even small town mayor) is a tad ambitious. Seven peeps had to pick someone, and he happened to be the sole candidate volunteering. It would have been nice if the others had shown a minimum of sensitivity in the matter, but at the same time this is being blown a bit out of proportion, really.

For one it is out of porportion and he was the only one who can use email to communincate with higher echelons of administration. No, really. :D

"Da wir keinen anderen haben – vor allem keinen Jüngeren, der sich mit Computern auskennt, der Mails verschicken kann." Und Szielasko sagte weiter: "Was er in der Partei macht oder privat, das ist nicht mein Ding, nicht unser Ding." Im Ortsbeirat verhalte er sich "absolut kollegial und ruhig".

"Because we don't have anyone else, especially a younger computer user who can send mail." And Szielasko continued: "What he does in the party or privately, that is not my thing, not our thing". In the local advisory council he behaves "absolutely collegially and calmly".

Not that professionalism. The other one, as in: "Who is the person we are electing?"

At the village level, it's all about interpersonal relations, not party affiliation. If you're a neo Nazi but not running around with a baseball bat and in combat boots, possibly with your posse of wannabe SS men in tow, and if you can keep your tongue in check most of the time you can be mistaken for a nice guy, or at least for a sorta-kinda acceptable one if there are no others to choose from.

Still not saying that it was a good idea to elect him but I can see how it can happen. Non-Nazi parties have to ask themselves if they did enough to prevent this, but this falls squarely back at the village itself. You only have a limited pool of volunteers to draw from. Anyone in the village now "feeling ashamed" as some said in interviews need to ask themselves why they didn't volunteer for election. Democracy hands the power to the population, but in return it expects a population that is rising to the challenge.

Haha, at my new job most of my colleagues are former East Berliners/Germans, and Union fans almost to the last man, and woman. This crowd is every bit as crazy as they say. The day after Union made the Federal League was hungover madness at the office. :D
