The MoD signed a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann to deliver 44 new built Leopard 2A7+ and 24 PzH2000.

The side dish will be 6 recovery vehicle and 12 Leopard 2A4 for training.

In Hungarian / Hungarian / German / German

We will pay for this among other means with yearly 400 overwork hours, calculated and paid at the end of a 3 year long timeframe. There is no brake on this train.

Thanks for the head up. According to wiki Hungarian Army fields one unit equipped with T-72M1s. According to wiki it is the 11th Tank Battalion, which is part of 25th Infantry Brigade "György Klapka". Are these Leopards going to replace the T-72 or both types will be kept? I assume the T-72s will be retired and maybe sold.

Why buy? Surely just get some EDA M1s and have them refurbished on Sam's dime.

I'm entirely sure there were some GDLS salesmen planning summer vacations in Aspen based on that very hope, Simon! :D

Buying only EU.

PS. Croats are having a fit over the Zrinyi name, again.

Would be so awesome if the hungarians would call their Leo2s Turan IV and the Pzh2000s Zrinyi III. :D

Because the Croats claim Zrinsyi for themselves.

I can just imagine some GDLS saleman pitching the idea of refurbishing their T-72's with a new engine and replacing the turret with an Abrams turret.  They could call it the T-72-2000.

I think they will go. More info about the subtypes we use(d) with detail shots. Polish, Czechoslovakian, Soviet builds were/are in use, up to T-72AV.

As our just announced defense plan is all-round self-defense without NATO (-> Zrínyi 2026), it looks like we buy 200 Pumas to accompany the Leopards.

Make ready to buy A400M as well, otherwise the Puma makes not too much sense.

I'm not well versed in air transport, but there is 3 US C-17 under Hungarian flag, part of the Heavy Airlift Wing @Pápa.

And that matters given that US Democratic senators running for president might delay and try to block the sale as a means of virtue signaling.

"kranktank"? What do you mean? The towed Leos?

They are coming back from an exercise offloading at Sondershausen train station and marching back to the Kyffhäuserkaserne in Bad Frankenhausen. So it is to be expected problems have reared their head and when in doubt you tow the panzers to not risking demolishing their engines or transmission. Heck according to regulation they ahve to be towed, when the brake warningindicator lights up. which it also does when only the parking brake is worn, so they would still be perfectly safe for road traffic. Just be careful when parking. But in peace time they have to be towed until the parking brake is repaired. The regulations are a bit overly cautious,. Also it looks like the sun is setting, so it is probably Friday evening and they want to go home, so instead of spending time repairing, they just tow them back to the Kaserne. It is easier to repair there too.
