Very sad news. RIP, Geoff.

"We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go
Always a little further: it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea …"

Cattle die and kinsmen die,
thyself too soon must die,
but one thing never, I ween, will die, --

RIP Geoff. We exchanged some mails when the last fund drive. Kindness personified.

Another one for the great I&I up there.

Sad to hear. RIP for a classy gentleman, and my condolences to the family.

Between King, and now Geoff, this has been a year of diminishment for the board.

Rest in Peace, Geoff, and thank you for co-founding Tank-Net... 2010 is a sad year for this Grate Sight, losing King and Geoff :(

My deepest condolences to the family and friends.

God bloody damn.

I had a bad feeling from the SITREPs on his status. Still, some shitty news to see first thing when you log into TankNet in the morning. RIP.

This has been a bad year, despite the great Seattle I&I. I wish he would have made it there so we could have met.

Never mind, just me being stupid and drunk.

And wishing I could take it all away or make it better.

For what it's worth Geoff, I never EVER drink spirits, but I and my bartender had shots of Glenlivet tonight to your memory.

I'll mourn him, but the second part is more in my mind in my modified quote:

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should be thankful that such men lived.

Thank you Geoff.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

We will remember them.

=======

We have been richer for having Geoff in our lives. May God bless and comfort his family, and those others who will miss him. And may we all lift a cup in his memory.

=============

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?

For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I'll be mine !
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu'd the gowans fine ;
But we've wander'd mony a weary fit,
sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie's a hand o' thine !
And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

To the family of Captain Geoffry Winnington-Ball,
My personal condolences to all of you. Try not to dwell on these last few days but on the years of duty, pride and laughter of the preceding years.
To Captain Geoffry Winnington-Ball,
Sir, you are a big reason why I respect Canada, it's people and her military.

I do hate to get practical but we need a TN wreath, if only to represent those of us spread around the globe.

I'll put $50 on the table.

If folks close to the scene are too busy, I'll see what can be done via inter flora.

The Family is still sorting out everything. Give it a day to two, I will post once I know more details
