Didn't Haiti kill all the white men at one time?

No, just all white French. They left Germans and Poles alone.

I know how Poles ended up there (military personnel sent by Napoleon), was it the same with Germans?

Needless to say, many rural parts of China are shit holes due to their geographical location / isolation.

The cancer villages with toxic industrial air and water pollution, the farmland poisoned by chemical fertilizers, herbicide and insecticide...

Most original farmers have left their farmlands to work in the factories because the price of produce is low, and the women are in short supply due to a culture of infanticide. And even farm girls see marrying a city dweller as a ticket to get out of farming. The original farmers, in turn, rent out their farmlands to tenant farmers.

A young property broker I knew in Shanghai told me why he left his farming life in rural China. He is from a family that owns farmland but no longer farms. Due to government cap, produce price has remained the same for the past 20 years. This means they have no way of being able to survive by farming. So they stopped farming and rented out their farmlands to tenant farmers.

The tenant farmer not only struggle with low price for the produce they grow, they also have to pay rent to the landlord farmers. So, in order to make ends meet, they do whatever it takes to grow more produce, which lead to the unscrupulous use of poisonous fertilizer, herbicides etc.

There are a lot of western documentaries about how evil and greedy Chinese people are to poison the food and the milk. So this conversation was a real eye opener to me. Not to excuse these poisoners, but at least I know it's not simply evil or greed, it is also misguided government policy to keep food prices artificially low in an attempt to placate the population.

And if you had ever wondered why the Chinese government does not entirely clamp down on the use of poisonous chemicals, you now know it is because they are aware their policies are part of the problem.

This chap, by the way, is one of the most helpful and hardworking person I've ever met from China. And there are lots of Chinese people like that. As opposed to the stereotype.

People like us who were born in modern countries, or like my wife born in Shanghai, are so lucky. We have a headstart. Those born in the countryside of China have to first make their way out of the vast Chinese hinterland shit holes, before they can even begin to make their way up.

The Chinese culture promotes the pursuit of wealth and progress.

Trump is right, and now the American people see the democrats and Lindsay Graham globalist for what they are, anti-American.  We need doctors, professors, professionals, not more welfare queens.

I started a list, but it began to look a little too all-inclusive...

So let's apply a little science.

Well, a few statistics anyway.

https://www.gapminde...rt-type=bubbles

Look at the bottom half of the default chart. Specifically, Look at the bubbles that are below the trend line - that represents countries where the life expectancy falls well below the average for any given income.

Lesotho, Swaziland, Somalia, Afghanistan, Central African Republic,..

The sector is dominated by Sub-Saharan Africa. And that includes South Africa, which has absolutely no excuse, although the timeline trend analysis suggests that it's recovering from its worst period.

STEM professionals should get preference.

Not the president of ALL our united states.  I don't disagree with the sentiment but if a rose by any other name can smell as sweet, then a shithole will be a shithole no matter what you call it.  The difference being that if you call a shithole paradise everyone will know that you mean shithole but they will live quietly with the pretense.  You worked for a pol, you know as well as anybody that you can be brutally honest while not giving people ammunition for the gun they keep pointed at you.

I agree on avoiding own goals but I don't see this as one. It heightens the sense of many that too many people for far too long have made a hash of the language to avoid calling things as they are. Particularly in an environment where Trump could have himself placed in a coma and say/do nothing and still be the focus of 24/7 derision and lies. When I heard the quote attributed to him, my first thought was to not even realize there was any issue and then when the follow on was hysteria, my next thought was "but I use the same damn word for the same damn countries". Trump has a way of highlighting the difference between him and the creased pants, beltway crowd that normal people find reassuring.

I am reminded of the fact that Nepalese troops on the UN mission to Haiti last go round managed to get a cholera outbreak going.

Isn't that text book shithole?

No, because many of the combat troops in that contingent were Gurkhas.  You don't associate Gurkhas with a shithole; They're simply too bad-ass for it to be appropriate.

As I recall, they told the Poles to leave but let them leave unmolested as the Poles had sided with the Haitians and fought alongside them.  Most of the Poles who left Haiti ended up settling in the US, I believe.

Apparently bacteria that barely make a dent to a Gurkha's digestive tract, wreck havoc elsewhere. Color me not surprised

Nepalese troops are not Gurkhas. Those serve in the British and Indian armies and are the best quality manpower. Nepalese army not so much.

The peasant dregs of a thirdworlder nation, so to speak. Possibly a microcosm of the Indian armed forces in general.

Trump is a real estate guy. His livelihood depends on correctly identifying and avoiding shitholes, foreign and domestic.

Very perceptive.  Trump just told the truth, and the Fake News Media and Libtards cannot handle the truth.  I have been to some third world sh*tholes, and that is exactly what they are.

What Simon said. Moreover, Gurkhas are a specific ethnic group from eastern and western Nepal. 6 tribes if I remember the explanation from my friend Thapa (Havildar, ret) correctly. The geographic differences are a point of rather strong competition among them. BUT what makes them Gorkhas as well in the military sense is their recruitment by the British Army, Indian Army and Kingdom of Brunei and Nation of Singapore as specialist and elite troops. Those are cream of the crop, with The British Army being the best and brightest.

There may have been folks in the Nepalese contingent who were recruited from those regions but I'm not sure that makes them Gurkhas by default.

http://dailycaller.c...-stupid-people/

Melinda Byerley, MBA and founder of Timeshare CMO, a Silicon Valley-based tech start-up, tweeted out Saturday afternoon describing what middle America could do to “get more jobs in their area.”

Byerley says that the first thing those in middle America need to realize is that “no educated person wants to live in a shithole with stupid people.” Particularly, in a “shithole” filled with people who are “violent, racist, and/or misogynistic.” In Byerley’s opinion, “big corporations,” do not consider moving to the heart of America because “those towns have nothing going for them.”

The towns have “no infrastructure, just a few bars and a terrible school system.”

The MBA claims that “we,” the educated people, like herself, “would like to live a more rural lifestyle,” but they “won’t sacrifice tolerance or diversity to do so.” Especially, these folks do not want to live in “states where the majority of residents are voting for things against their own interests,” solely, because these voters “don’t want brown people to thrive.”
