I'm a sucker for US 8" cruisers so I bought the Wichita a while back.  I'm really enjoying it and have been alternating it with the Indianapolis and the Des Moines.  I don't have any interest in the Alaska, and I'm saving up coal for a Salem, but I would really like to see a T6 8" premium.  I know I could just run the Pensacola but doing that limits me to playing it with a bespoke captain.

I know it's T5 and British, but have you tried the Exeter?  It's pretty fun.

I agree with you about the Wichita.  It's a good ship.

No I haven't.  I may complete the Exeter missions and end up with one that way but since I have a bunch of T5 premiums I don't really plan on buying one.

The Exeter missions look to be really tough going forward. I doubt I'm going to make it, which is a pity.

I suspect I won't make it given my usual 3-4 games a day pace of play but the 1000 coal for each set I finish won't hurt my feelings any.

When RNG hates you it hates you.  Encountered an Akizuki (T8 Japanese Destroyer) with 198 hp left at 200 meters in my Saint Louis (T9 French Cruiser) I got six 8" HE hits and five 100 mm HE secndary hits on the DD.  Total damage was 0, I did take out his engines and two aa guns.  I was killed by some close range citadels by a Stalingrad (don't get me started on that bullshit ship)  before I could reload.  Hope the guy driving the DD bought a lottery ticket.

Damage saturation is such bullshit.

Game mechanic.

The ship hit points are divided up in sectors and you can max out damage against a sector. If you keep hitting a saturated sector, no more damage is sustained. I think that is what happened with your example.

personally, I think that a ship should be heavily disabled if it's saturated. For example, if the superstructure is gone, it should have no AA, only emergency steering and sped changes should be slow (everyone on the bridge is splattered), any emergency position will have crap situational awareness, etc.

I'd also like to see Radar take critical hits so it goes out like turrets do, temporarily until repaired.

Thanks. Realistically radar should have a chance of failure every time the guns fire but there's already more than enough rng in the game as it is.

Not so sure myself, also, I have no idea what "higher tier" means. Graf Spee was only seriously damaged by an 8" hit to its fuel processing system. No 6" hits seriously impaired her from 16 such weapons.

It's totally a myth, but somebody at WOW thought that the German Pocket BBs were proof against 8-inch fire. Go figure. The rate of fire of 6-inch cruisers should shred any Deutschland of secondaries, torpedoes, fire control, steering, etc.

I see much pain in WOWS. For myself, I was delighted to find the old Task Force 42 in Steam and am happily jumping from ship to ship in the Solomons Slot. Totally addictive.
