Why America Can't Play Russia off Against China

Moscow’s commentators appraise Bolton’s Kremlin visit.

As long as Russia remembers it's place as 2nd fiddle to China, things will be fine. But relationships have a funny way of going sideways.

When choosing between being 2nd fiddle to China and 3rd world for US, choice is obvious. We already know how "partnership with US" looks like for Russia.

Russia Buys Quarter of World Yuan Reserves in Shift From Dollar

Russia’s central bank dumped $101 billion in U.S. holdings from its huge reserves, shifting into euros and yuan last spring amid a new round of U.S. sanctions.

The central bank moved the equivalent of $44 billion each into the European and Chinese currencies in the second quarter, according to a report published on late Wednesday by the Bank of Russia, which discloses the data with a six-month lag. Another $21 billion was invested in the Japanese yen.

"Finally, the US Establishment is realising that it has created is own worat nightmare - out of hubris, arrogance and simple diplomatic incompetence.

How unfortunate that the authors miss the simple fact that this is not a creation of Trump - but of the dysfunctionality of both parties, and their willingness to pitch US interests under the bus for partisan gain."

America’s Nightmare: The Sino-Russian Entente

The most dangerous threat to America “would be a grand coalition of China and Russia, united not by ideology, but by complementary grievance.”

US trade deficit with China grows to a record and it's likely even worse than the data shows

China's trade surplus with the U.S. — closely watched amid a bitter trade dispute between the two countries — grew 17 percent from a year ago to hit $323.32 billion in 2018.
According to Reuters, that's the highest on record dating back to 2006.
Exports to the U.S. rose 11.3 percent on-year in 2018, while imports from the U.S. to China rose 0.7 percent over the same period.

American companies are of course unwilling to give up the profits generated from selling Chinese made good to the US consumer who is blissfully isolated by the media and government from the consequences of their consumption choices. Simple things like Iphones being as Chinese as Huawei simply will not be discussed, not by any lack of acces but a cultural unwillingness to recognize the parluous nature of decline.

American companies such as Ford and GM seem equally unwilling to give up the profits generated from selling to Chinese consumers, unfortunately.
