Some news popped up on the Dev Blog over the weekend, bringing more light intot he US cruiser line split - merging with the news old 1 update:

Heavy cruiser line:

Tier VI: Pensacola downtiered (for testing purposes will be Salt Lake City)

Tier VII: New Orleans downtiered (testing: Astoria)

Tier VIII: Baltimore downtiered (testing: Pittsburgh)

Tier IX: Buffalo (CA-B)

Light cruiser line:

Tier VI: Dallas (looks like one of Atlanta preliminaries, might be made up though as Spring Styles for the period did not survive)

Surely, armor will need to be revised, otherwise they are going to be murdered

Based on Cleveland, they should be OK, they have a heavy cruiser armor after all (I mean other navies heavy cruiser), plus if they keep Cleveland's citadel placement...

Ranges are rather short, but then so is concealment.Should be good for cap support.

Short range+cruiser armor= sitting ducks for BB fire, more so since look-for-an-island-to-hide-behind has become standard tactic.

The description for one of them said the armor thickness was changed since it changed tiers.  It's been ages since I played but has WoWs followed in WoT's footsteps and thrown out historical data for the sake of 'balance'?

Not armor, as such, the hull plating (which was used as a balance factor all along - mostly plays role in high angle impacts and vs. HE) and as such is generally tied to tiers with some exceptions to make some ships tankier.

The role that hull plating plays seems to be most relevant for AP hits, Do HE shells that ricochet do zero damage and start no fires? If they still start fires when ricocheting off a ship's sides, that's simply broken.

I didn't think HE ricocheted, I don't play much these days so maybe it's rare enough for me to not see it.

He can fail to penetrate and deal damage (hence importance of the IFHE skill for 6" cruisers) - even non pens start fires.
