I'm sceptical about 10 seconds flight time, even if said rifle have relatively low MV. Someone has spreadsheet of speed loss of .50 cal over distance?

Pity there are no Russians on the list, particularly as they turned Sniperism into something of an art during WW2.

Didnt I read somewhere they had purchased some British sniper rifles in the past 10 years for their Spetsnaz?

Yes, for example, they acquired a limited amount of British Accuracy International AWM sniper rifles for its special forces, also being only confirmed foreign customer of the pistol-grip skin. Some of those were spotted with Syrian special forces around Damascus too, shortly after Russia open joined the conflict.

They successfully tested guided fifty Cal projectiles a couple of years back. The sooner they roll those out the better.

I think they featured it as a concept on that 'future weapons' programme a decade ago. They proposed using them against the turret ring of a tank, which is an interesting idea. Not sure its feasible on all tanks however.

JBM Ballistics shows 700 gr M2 ball at 2950 fps taking about 8.2 secs to 3550 yds, with a drop of 751 ft (9014 inches. 242 MOA). Thats G1 .670 BC which is the BC I found online, so I wouldn't trust it at that range, not to mention they would be using a better bullet than M2 ball, but it gives a good ballpark figure.

I was just gonna say, if the flight time was nearly ten seconds, he had just enough time to yell "SOARY ABOAT THAT!"

Here's a pretty good breakdown of what was needed to make that shot.

After watching that video the phrase "Inshallah" came to mind......or  "Deus vult" depending on how you look at it...

Most important was good luck in that shot. On that distance you can still miss a tank sized target with fire control in full stab mode because of wind and other factors.

BTW high high above sea level was the shot taken? in thinner air bullets fly farther.

I'm perfectly happy to have the western militaries duke it out on who has the best long range snipers by plinking jihadis. Seems like there's a pay-per-view opportunity in there somewhere. One benefit of the .50 cal is that pretty much a hit anywhere is a kill shot.
