A Democrat environmental rally.  Some of the comments are pretty good.

The Dems are so confident in plan A, beating Trump in the election, that they have a plan B, impeachment. That's going so well that they are trying to bolster plan A. Since 20+ candidates weren't enough, now Michael Bloomberg and Deval Patrick have jumped in. Can Hillary! be far behind? Soon we'll be hearing that the 22nd amendment is unconstitutional and we need Obama back.

I had an idle thought this morning.  What if Trump is impeached and removed from office, is there anything to prevent him from running in 2020?  I could see a fair number of people turning out and voting for him just to flip the bird at the both parties.

The Democrats are in some ways having a similar problem this year as the GOP had four years ago.  Four years ago the GOP constituency, having spent years being lied to by party leadership, and tiring of GOP politicians talking a big game only to suck up to the left, finally took matters into their own voting booths and picked a non-politician to run things.  The idea being that he couldn't be any worse than what the GOP had heretofore been giving them, and he damn sure wasn't Hillary.

The Dems are finding out that when you spend 80 years promising your constituents a workers paradise there comes a time that merely paying lip service to the idea is not enough. That time has come.  The problem the saner Democrats have is that while they have been promising a fantasy, a Shangri La, they knew full well that no such place exists, and to the extent that it may, it is surrounded by prison walls.  But, they can't risk saying that for the real fear of pitchforks and torches marching not against the Right, but against themselves of the Democratic Party leadership.

Well stated!

The key difference being that Trump was constantly getting stronger and stronger, much to my horror at the time. He left a trail of wrecked campaigns behind him as he moved inexorably towards the nomination. There is no such person on the Dem side. They've got nothing, hence the panicked need for a plan B, and now a plan C.

As AOC recently said on CNN:

"This is about preventing a potentially disastrous outcome from occurring next year."

It's always been about the election, the one in 2016 and now the one in 2020.
