Syrian army kills five Turkish soldiers in rebel-held province, says Turkey

This happened last week. The Turks retaliated with artillery fire too and I think they killed some Syrian soldiers.

EDIT: I was wrong. This is a new incident.

The Syrians will not go to Idlib city for now. Turks are motivated entirely by loss of prestige,

Loss of prestige or not, the Turks also seem motivated by revenge.

Idiocy or not, the Sultan has sworn it.

Turkish blood appears to be up at the moment.

The rebels appear to like playing with ATGMs as well.

Erdoğan threatens Assad with retaliation if more troops harmed

https://www.theguard...ed-syria-turkey

By declaring this, Turkey is de-facto inviting rebels to further escalation.

Even those celebrating the shootdown probably wanted it to end after a while.

Erdogan's threat against Assad is a general confirmation of recent Turkish military reverses.

So can someone remind me why the US withdrawing and allowing Turkey to invade was a good thing?

Turkey recently donated a number of M113s to rebel factions.

Here is one seen next to a BRM-1K first donated by Russia to the Syrian regime last year and then captured by rebels:

Turkey is also driving large numbers of MRLS systems to Idlib:

But what will happen to those civilians and hospitals? Or the NATO-approved submunitions have integrated Assad-seeker?

I guess the hospitals in the territories recently conquered by Assadists have already been destroyed prior to being occupied by their new owners, so there is no need to entertain any worries.

So far, the talks in Ankara between the Turks and Russians have remained fruitless: https://www.france24...-inconclusively

US has limited toleration for large scale and long term operations. Need to save that card for when its really needed.

Talks in Ankara between the Sultan and the Bear have their place, but in this instance, a katana must draw blood before being sheathed. Such talks will not be productive until then.
