No. They were trialed in the variety of roles, mostly in the light and hill units, but were not found to be particularly good in any role - they needed road to be ridden, and road network in the hill-mountain parts of Yugoslavia was pretty poor until the late '70s at least. They could be used for carrying supplies, but a single pack horse could carry much more and more reliably on a bad terrain.

There was however Territorial Defense manual that included a section on using bicycles as an improvised transport.

Not really.

I have only Plt level for combat engineer units from 1960s/70s, 1980s TD engineer platoon from a TD brigade, and Mechanized Engineer company of the Mechanized Brigade from the '80s, but nothing more, so I will have to first dig it up to "establish a timeline" like with other units.

Civilian equipment like trucks was only supposed to "fill a gap" in the armed forces, and would have probably been only needed for a sonme of 2nd and 3rd call reserves.

I read about the pack horses, did said horse units have horse pulled wagons or carts?

I read about the pack horses, did said horse units have horse pulled wagons or carts?

Yes, there were few models of the light 2-wheel cart listed in the 80s manual:

M46 - towed by a single horse - wooden, weights 140kg and can carry 200kg - retired in '60s.

M46A - towed by a single horse - steel - weighs 160kg and can carry 250kg

M84 - towed by a single horse or light motor vehicle (3/4t* most often) steel - 208/228kg**, can carry 400kg

*Pinzgauer 710

** tow bar for towing by motor vehicles weights 20kg

There were also various ww2 thophies, but they were retired ASAP and gone by the '60s..

No load plan for M46/46A, but manual says following for M84:

- full machinegun section (3 x MG) with full ammo load (1200 rounds for M53 or 1050 rounds for M84 MG) and crew equipment

- 1 x heavy machinegun 12.7mm M2 with full ammo load (500 rounds) and crew equipment. Additional 4 crates of ammo can be also carried

- 1 x 82mm mortar with 2/3 of ammo load (40 grenades) and crew equipment

- 2 x 60mm M57 mortar, full ammo load (10 crates of ammo - 120 rounds total) and crew equipment

- 1 x 9K11 (AT-3 Sagger) ATGM launcher with full ammo load (4 missiles) and crew equipment

- 1 x light rocket launcher 128mm M71 with full ammo load and crew equipment

- 3 x SA-7 launcher with full ammo load (9 missiles) and crew equipment

- 2 heavily or 4 lightly wounded.

- 1 x 82mm RCL with full ammo load (8 rounds) and crew equipment - but this one was more commonly towed by a single horse since it had wheeled carriage:

Yugo_82mm_M60.png

Horse wagons were parts of the higher orgs (usually Bn level transport company), but with motorization they got replaced by motor vehicles. They were gone by the late '50s (with phasing out of the 1947. org) from the "line" infantry units and by the early 80s from the last light units.

There were also following hand-carts still in the '70s:

IF8 (n)

M1A1 (a) - 107mm mortar*

M3A4 (a) - universal

M4 (a) - machinegun

M6 (a) - 81/82mm mortar

As (a) part of designation says those were US M1A1, M3A4, M4 and M6 hand carts. IF8 was German.

Those were however not specified in the TOE.

*US 107mm mortars were long gone by that time, so I have no idea what was a purpose of keeping this one.

It was a mod of F-81.

- Radar section was increased to 12 w/3 x GSR and it's truck was changed to 3t.

- 5t truck (TAM 5000) was changed to newer 3t (TAM 150) as a practical carry weight was actually better for 3t of road.

TAM 150 is basicly the same Magirus 130m7 that is the SAMIL 20, right? Magirus sold the design when they lost to Unimog U1300?

TAM 150 is basicly the same Magirus 130m7 that is the SAMIL 20, right?

Kinda.

TAM (who started as an assembly line for MDAP GMC CCKW trucks) did licenced Magirus trucks as TAM 4500/5000. Their nickname was "Dajc" from Deutz (engine manufacturer).

In the mid-'60s YPA requested 3/4t-1t vehicle to replace Dodge WC series*. Unimog 400 series was a reference. TAM developed larger model than it was required, 1.5t TAM 110, based on Magirus design, but with some changes due the army requirements. It was tested in 1971. and in 1973. it started service. Army was very happy with it, and decided that they also wanted larger 3t model, so TAM enlarged 110 with 6x6 drive and more powerful engine  and called it TAM 150.

Both 110 and 150 are were really liked for excellent cross-country performances and great reliability.

*Requirement for 3/4t-1t vehicle was still unfulfilled however, so Pinzgauer 710 4x4 were finally acquired.
