Going to be up north. We have the CJTF Phoenix mission and are initially falling in under and then RIPing another NG BCT and then an 82nd ABN BCT is joining us, so not sure how this is going to play out politically. High probability that we will get treated like the red-headed step children we are.
Still not sure what I'll be doing yet. Thru a series of unfortunate events, wound up in the BN S3 shop. REALLY did not enjoy being a staff gofer during trainup, and so if I don't get to do what I was promised (UAV ops and S3Air) I may ask to go down to a line Co PMT even if that means leaving a nice cushy FOB job.

Made it to N. A-stan. First thing off the plane went to a memorial service for 3 German troops who died last week. Not a good omen for the coming few months. We've already lost 4...

Finally found where its hot in Afganistan. Just cooling my heels because my final destination is over crowded.

As mentioned before, take care.

Number of Operations Iraq Freedom and Enduring Freedom casualties
as confirmed by U.S. Central Command: 5007

Remember the hoopla over 2000 when Bush was president? We just hit 5000 and not a peep in the media.

Since January 101 US service personnel have been killed in Iraq.

156 have been killed in Afghanistan in the same time frame.

Good on all counts! Alive & well, that's obvious, and busy makes the time pass faster. :)

Pass along our regards and tell him to check in, durnit!

A bit busy must be the understatement of the year. Probably busier than a one legged man at a butt kicking contest. :)

Had a couple of firsts this week. First time being hit by an RPG and first time rolling over in an MRAP. I'm fine except for some bumps and bruises and I don't recommend the experience.

It was a pretty hairy fight, the makings of Blackhawk Down material if we hadn't have been as lucky as we were. More later, probably much later when the OPSECiness of it diminishes.

I'd forgotten how much I hated the sound of AKs and RPGs being fired at me.

Thanks for the "I'm OK" post. Look forward to details later; just don't do the same things again...

Very happy to hear you are okay, and hope the rest of the team came out all right, too. More than that I will not say, because my ancestral pieties (rudely called 'superstitions' by those who don't share them) particularly include "naming".

Ditto. The rolling MRAP, again due to being top heavy or the road giving way underneath it? Or a result of an attack? Keep safe as usual, and give the enemy hell.

Stay safe and as you likely know, don't underestimate them, they are always watching for patterns they can exploit.
