For jason.

Sort of a side track or bunny trail.  By Battlefield do you mean Battlefield 4?  Never played any version of Battlefield.  I thought it was FPS game (Sniper type game).  Recently heard that it has tanks.  So I am curious.

Battlefield is low on the realism but very strong in a game-world combined arms. It's mostly infantry FPS, but you can spend your entire time in various AFVs, planes, helos and boats. IMO it's got much higher skill requirements in terms of conventional gamer skills than WOT, even in the highly simplified vehicle mechanics.

WOT is slow, BF requires you to be fast, map aware, know how to work the team mechanics, etc. And be a fast/accurate shot.

The AFV combat is limited, there are only a few weapon loadouts and only 3 types of truly armored vehicles. Armor angling is now a feature as well.

If you've never tried a BF game, you really should.

I enjoyed playing commander in BF, it can really make a difference to battle. Once you became commander the ground fight was pretty much over for you and you need to concentrate on the map and applying your resources (supply, vehicle drops, arty and UAV) to the people that needed it.

On a different note; while Wot (niched) is a success, and Wowp is not an instant hit (less niched), where will Wows land?

Personal experience is that a lot of guys I've come across in WoT are eagerly awaiting this game and talking about it for a while.  With WoWp there was basically no discussion and when there was it was either a ) play WT instead or b ) the beta sucked.

If WG can pull it off (and that's a big if) the prospects are very good.

I'm one of no really interested in WoWp's but hugely interested in WoWs people.  I have WoWp but not much.  Mostly trying to get Spitfie and Folke-wolf.  My favorites.  Oh and a Vampire if it ever comes out.

Logged in about 30m ago for the sake of curiosity.  Server was only at 1300.  It's a weekday evening at prime time.  Has the pop dropped that much or is this just an anomaly and 2k is still the norm?

Just checked. 696 on the WoWp server vs 17,165 on the WoT NA East and NA West servers combined.

We just passed the 3-month mark.  I logged in at various times throughout the evening (on the 11th) and the most I saw on was 1400.  That's a good 30% drop from the 2k it was consistently pulling in after launch.  Not a good sign for the NA server.

I logged in on Monday during the day and there was only 820 or so on, as opposed to 14,000 on the two WoT NA servers.

I actually hopped in a few games tonight.  Ran into the same issue of unicum flights with no competition trolling whatever is high tier at that time (these guys have thousands of games and have reached tier 10).  Thankfully they were on my team but I had no desire to hit launch again in case they were on the other.  Logged off after that.

Played a few games yesterday, won with my Blenheim F, 110-c and Bsh-2 and made some decent coin, server pop at 5:00pm PST was 1350

I have learned to avoid being in the first encounter, I circle decide which group to follow and then go after single or pairs. Also looking for teammates being chased and go after the chaser seems to be working.

This was posted over on the wotlabs forums and sums up the problem with the NA server rather nicely:

Current life cycle of the game in a nutshell:

-New player joins the game

-New player finds the game interesting and grinds up to mid tier relatively quickly

-New player gets clubbed over and over again from *certain* individuals, loses interest

-New player quit the game before reaching to high tier

The NA population is down 30%+ since the game launched.  It is dying and the above isn't helping any.  Is WG going to actually do something about it or are they content with letting this game die off completely or leaving it to the trolls?  Have they given up completely already?

have to agree with the, however I have no real interest in pushing to the higher tiers anyways. WG can likely afford the game running at what is at best open payable Beta, the server costs are likely low (or they signed agreements which they are going to let run out)

I like to see games where "defend the transports" So one side is tasked to fly escort for an airborne op and the other side is tasked to stop it. this means no GA, but room for fighters and heavy fighters and moving transports (AI controlled) force the defending side to work together to protect the squadron, the transports would have to be fairly dumb in order to not tax the server, no defensive fire (or limited) and very little ability to avoid attacks.

for new player they should get a HP code that gives them 15-25% more HP for X number of games.

As I've mentioned before there's actually a really easy fix for the NA server: turn off flights.  Given WoWp gameplay a single flight in a game is more powerful than a platoon in WoT.  That's bad enough in a 15v15.  Apparently at higher tiers when there's simply not enough to get full teams per side you can see games of 4v4 with one side having a flight of 3 on it.  Can any of you imagine playing WoT where a top CW clan is able to take 12 of their guys into a pub game?  Would that be fun for any of you if you were on the other team?  Would you want to consistently play under those circumstances?

There's other issues as well like horrible balance and the ability to easily manipulate the MM given the low pop but if you take away flights these other two become less pronounced.  The question is... does WG care enough about the NA market to make this server-specific change?

There were some fantastic mods for BF1942 back in the day. Personal favorite was Forgotten Hope which a more realistic take on all the WW2 theaters. Many years later some crazy guys made a mini-mod for it which added all sorts of experimental/theoretical stuff including the 1,500 tonne "Ratte" land cruiser.

BF2 had its fair share of good mods too yet the later games don't allow that sort of thing.

I keep saying I'm done with this game but reading rocket's blog keeps bringing me back.

Logged on the last 2 days to do a single daily on my C-6 so I can eventually buy the unlocked F4U.  Just now, 15m after the dailies reset and prime time on the East coast, there weren't even 1100 online.  Not promising.
