I can think of a number of reasons why I would not be averse to a decapitation strike on Kim.

Abe will not meet with Moon at the G20 next week in Osaka after Kono rejected Korea's compromise proposal regarding wartime slave labor reparations.

The time for compromise appears to be over.

If Japanese assets are frozen and seized by Korea, Japan will respond.

Abe and Moon are not set to meet at the G20 after earlier hopes for a thaw in the collapse of relations were raised last week. Seoul says talks depend on Moon. Events would seem to indicate that talks depend on Korea and Koreans halting their wartime forced labor lawfare campaign against Japan Inc.

Korea and Koreans would be prudent not to go ahead with the sale of the Japanese assets they have seized so far in their wartime forced labor compensation campaign. Such a step would be another escalation.

ISTR that after the FCS radar case, Japan threatened sanctions on ROK. Since then, Japan seemed to have backed off on the threat. So its back to the standard of going in circles with the history.

News of a possible lifting of Japan's 14-year ban on imports of Russian chicken meat.

The hope was that constructive progress might be made toward convincing Putin of how serious Japan and Japanese are about the sovereignty of the Northern Territories. The reality has been disappointing.

Trump's pre-G20 statements concerning Japan and Japanese watching World War III on Sony television are as well in various ways.

Washington's current mindset toward Japan appears unmoved by the seriousness of Abe's efforts to establish a bond with Trump. As reported by the NY Times yesterday:

“We have a treaty with Japan,” Mr. Trump said. “If Japan is attacked, we will fight World War III. We will go in and we will protect them and we will fight with our lives and with our treasure. We will fight at all costs, right? But if we’re attacked, Japan doesn’t have to help us at all. They can watch it on a Sony television, the attack.”

Ironically, Putin's mindset toward Japan and Japanese appears similarly unmoved by the 24+ meetings Abe has had with him to try and establish the same. The lifting of a Japanese ban on Russian chicken meat in 2019 is not the level of understanding Abe had in mind as a result of such efforts.

Putin and Trump apparently respect the same things. Abe's approach does not seem to be one of them.
