It hides the fact that they can barely reverse.  :P

IIRC T-80s can, T-72 are more limited.

Ukrainian gun firing. Makes me wonder what happened to flashless powder?

I guess it is old ammunition from storage. When ammunition ages the powders change properties through chemical reactions over time.

Well a former Kiwi gunner I showed this too thought this was weird. He suspects that in order to increase range more propellant was added, which burned off and ejected out the muzzle. He thought it quite weird too.

All the best

MT-12 doesn't have variable charge. It have unitary charge.

And I'm no artilleryman, but videos of tank guns firing APSDFS also show big flame burst. Considering than MT-12 is smoothbore AT gun with very big charge perhaps it's the matter of pressure?

Thanks, that explains why when I saw Syrian tanks in a ally instead of reversing they turned round and presented the engines to the enemy.  Reminds me of the song Star Treckkin.

T-72 reverse speed is quite poor, IIRC ~10km/h.

Wait, what's this?

T-72s (and I'm assuming 90s) are meant to crush the puny capitalists in the attack, comrade.  Not use hills and other cover as fire and maneuver aids!  That's wasting time!

Good to hear that T-80s can though.  The lack of reverse speed really hinders the T-72 in various ways.

best tactic if you're defending with T-72 in SB, is to turn your tank 180 degrees and just drive.

Interesting, our M-84 is ~10km/h reverse, so I guessed it was same for all of T-72s. Guess it was one of parts that was improved on transmission. Still poor, but 4km/h is next to useless...
