That one takes the cake. :D

Why? At least one BGM-109 was shot down with Strela-2M in 1999 and at least two more with 20mm AAA.

The question is not about whether he needs to militarily, though again... Squashing the pockets sooner is better for him than protracted siege.

Roman - any signs that Putin might be talking to Erdogan to expand the role of Turkey in Syria in the north, given that the Americans will be looking for excuses to attack again?  (The American's actual strategy here is aimed at leveraging North Korea prior to the summit, so there will be more attacks).

No idea, but as far as i heard today Turkish Foreign minister attacked French President statement about problems between Rus and Turkey over Syria.

Americans will not be looking for excuses to attack again - as they are fully capable to create excuse when needed. Wery litte could be done with it by Russia (see repeated warnings on Eastern Gpota афдыу адфп attack comming - it as conducted anyway)

I don't see how a D/E could run down a nuke boat. The nuke just needs to maintain a high rate of advance for a couple hours and the D/E can't follow. I don't think those frigates have particularly heavy ASW suites either.

If they only need to make it leave designated launch area (and "maintain a high rate of advance for a couple hours" will effectively do it)  + anti-submarine planes providing support, it could be done. But as far as i remember out of two Kilos in Tartus one stayed there (at least on sat photos)

It wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't part of a long tale of how the great Syrian Cold War-era air defense network shot down 70 percent of a cruise missile barrage (how often has that happened, in 1999 or at any other time?).

As far as i remember in Yugoslavia it was up to 60%, and Syrian systems are updated by Russia (unlikeYugoslavia ones)

As for me, over claim or not, it is the first time (as far as I remember) when coalition of top three Western powers unable to demonstrate any significant result of what was supposed to be massive strike. The very fact of space left for over claims is quite telling

'The search for truth in the rubble of Douma - and one doctor’s doubts over the chemical attack'

See the allegation the deaths were from asphyxiation from poorly ventilated tunnels combined with all that dust seen in the videos posted earlier.

'War stories, however, have a habit of growing darker. For the same 58-year old senior Syrian doctor then adds something profoundly uncomfortable: the patients, he says, were overcome not by gas but by oxygen starvation in the rubbish-filled tunnels and basements in which they lived, on a night of wind and heavy shelling that stirred up a dust storm.'

'“I was with my family in the basement of my home three hundred metres from here on the night but all the doctors know what happened. There was a lot of shelling [by government forces] and aircraft were always over Douma at night -- but on this night, there was wind and huge dust clouds began to come into the basements and cellars where people lived. People began to arrive here suffering from hypoxia, oxygen loss. Then someone at the door, a ‘White Helmet’, shouted ‘Gas!”, and a panic began. People started throwing water over each other. Yes, the video was filmed here, it is genuine, but what you see are people suffering from hypoxia – not gas poisoning.”
