In a severe irony fail, German ambassador called in by Turkish foreign ministry over video clip in satirical TV magazine of public broadcaster NDR criticizing Erdogan's understanding of freedom of the press, set to the tune of Nena's "Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann", and confronted with demands that the German government make it disappear. NDR reacts by posting the clip to Youtube with English subtitles enabled.

Should have taken a cue from late soviet KGB. They used diamonds and rarer metals like platinum for similar deals outside the regular monetary system.

Freedom of speech does not work how you would like, Erdo.
In theory the turkish constitution contains it. Too bad no judge in Turkey has the balls and support to go against the neosultan.

Sounds like something the CCP would do.

Good video.

Errr....Sultan does not stand for insults. In any case he is quite sucessful in extortion in addition to fuelling terror. Anyone else would have long been sanctioned.... rather than receive turkgeld.

http://eucom.dodlive...ts-from-turkey/

The Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, has authorized the ordered departure of all DoD dependents not assigned to Chief of Mission authority from Adana (to include Incirlik Air Base), Ismir, and Mugla, Turkey. This decision allows for the deliberate, safe return of family members from these areas due to continued security concerns in the region.

This step does not signify a permanent decision to end accompanied tours at these facilities. It is intended to mitigate the risk to DoD elements and personnel, including family members, while ensuring the combat effectiveness of U.S. forces and our mission support to operations in Turkey. The United States and Turkey are united in our common fight against ISIL, and Incirlik continues to play a key role in counter-ISIL operations.

Stars & Stripes ahs some more detail: http://www.stripes.c...turkey-1.401622

and the official travel warning: http://travel.state....el-warning.html

The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from
terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern
Turkey. Effective March 29, 2016, the Department of State ordered the
departure of family members of U.S. government personnel posted to U.S.
Consulate in Adana and family members of U.S. government civilians in
Izmir and Mugla provinces, and restricted official travel to Turkey to
mission-critical travel only. U.S. Consulate in Adana remains open and
will provide all routine consular services.

future diplomatic relations and deals with turkey should be made through hungarian, bulgarian or croatian diplomats.

That might be best.  Erdogan is the kind who might try to lash out, even at diplomats, if thwarted badly.  I could easily see him ordering a bombing he'd then blame on Daesh.

So...

When will Turkey's "special expeditionary forces" more famously known as Daesh pay NDR's office a Charlie Hebdo-style visit?

Reportedly Turkish man who claimed shooting dead Rus pilot on parachute last year was arrested alongside ~10 comrades in restraint for illegal arms etc. Seems like Erdogan now looking for ways to improve relations with Russia amid growing worries about no tourist season etc.

Both Armenia and Azerbaijan reporting clashes along all front line in Karabakh tonight - according to Arm side, it was Azeri army attempt to break through supported by Grad strikes and aviation (other side report opposite). Armenians claim enemy Hind down, lots of civilian casualties.

It may be Baku leadership attempt to start "small victorious war" as oil prices drop turned Azerbaijan economic miracle into ruins (Aliev is currently in US AFAIK), or their main ally (Turkey) reminding Russia that if Turkey "relation normalization proposals" not taken, they may cause more problems to Russia away from Syria.

That would seem risky, given that Russia could find ways to make such a war longer and less victorious without expending major effort.

Via Oryx's Twitter feed:

It seems that earlier today Daesh fired a AT-14/9M133 Kornet across the border into a Turkish M-60T:

Daesh is claiming a kill and showing before and after images as its proof.

However, Turkey has this photo that it says is of the tank in question:

CgaaQ54WsAAvA_z.jpg

The Turkish General Staff say that this M60T survived the Kornet due to its Israeli-made ERA and was able to fire eight shells back at the missile position that hit it.

What does the group think?  Did the tank survived or did it not?
